1997 - 2003 Era

CGF TC2000

The first widely adopted TC2000, also referred to as a MICH helmet was made by the French Firm CGF Gallet (C.G.F Helmets Inc). CGF first began US operations in March of 1995 (Maryland). Then expanding its operations to Canada in September of 1995 (Les Casques C.G.F. Inc.). CGF was a helmet manufacturer, and produced a wide variety of protective helmets. These ranged from bike helmets to helicopter helmets. Although not proven, it is believed their first military contract was received 1998 with mass production beginning in 1999. Early examples have been found with contract dates ranging from 1997 - 1998. These may have been a limited trial helmet.

TC2000 helmets were made in Green and Tan. Black examples have also been found, though these were private purchase and not issued (private purchase examples were available prior to 1997).

2003 - 2004 Era

MSA GALLET TC2000

The firm MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Co) purchased CGF Helmets Inc. in may of 2002. Shortly following the acquisition, helmets produced during 2003 - 2004 were marked with both of the companies name - MSA Gallet.

MSA Gallet helmets were produced in green and tan only.

2005 - 2007 Era

MSA ACH (Green and Tan)

In 2005 MSA dropped two important features on their helmets. Most notably, this was the removal of the name Gallet from their helmets, and the term TC2000 (Referred to as MICH). From 2005 onwards, helmets produced without the term TC2000 are considered Advanced Combat Helmets (ACH Helmets). It is believed that the TC2000 term was dropped as a result of the Army starting to look towards the future of their combat helmets, with initial improvements being made to these models.

MSA ACH Helmets were produced in Green, Tan and Black.

MSA TC2000 Series (Navy Issue)

2008 - 2011 Era

Before moving onto other MICH / ACH Helmets, it is worth noting that MSA brought back the production of TC2000 helmets from 2008 - 2011. These helmets were specially marked TC 2000 Series as a result of the ACH Helmet being produced during the same time period. It is unclear exactly why there was a specified run of TC2000 helmets produced during this time frame, however all known issued examples have been linked to the US Navy. With that, we believe that the US Navy continued to have the older TC 2000 helmet produced and issue to more elite units (With higher budgets) while in the transitional period between the older LWH iterations and ECH helmets.

MSA TC2000 Series helmets were produced in Green and Tan only.

2004 - 2008 Era

Gentex TBH-II

While CGF / MSA produced the TC2000 MICH, Gentex was contracted in 2004 by the US Army to produce the Tactical Ballistic Helmet (W911QY-04-F-0235), also referred to as a MICH helmet. It is thought that the TBH-I was contracted by the US Air Force, the TBH-II by the US Army, and the TBH-III by the US Navy.

The TBH-II was produced in two colors, Foliage Green 483 and Foliage Green 504 only.

2004 - 2006 Era

Warrior Helmet by SDS

While CGF / MSA produced the TC2000 MICH, and Gentex produced the TBH-II MICH, Specialty Defense Systems produced the Warrior helmet by SDS, also referred to as a MICH helmet.

Warrior helmet, by SDS (Specialty Defense Systems) MICH helmets were produced in Green and Grey only.

SDS ACH

2005 - 2007 Era

The first production marked Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH Helmet) (contract number - W911QY-05-D-0001.) is that of The Specialty Group Inc, AKA Specialty Defense Systems Inc (SDS), later acquired by BAE Systems. SDS received the first ACH contract from the U.S. Army Robert Morris Acquisition Center in Natick in 2005. These examples can most notably be denoted by the grey helmet shell (To match the newly adopted ACU / UCP pattern), or the term Advanced Combat Helmet on the tag. ACH helmets produced following this were also issued with grey chinstrap hardware instead of black.

2005 - 2013 Era

MSA ACH

Following MSA dropping the Term TC2000, in 2005 we see the second marked Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH Helmet) contract number - W911QY-05-D-0002. MSA received the second ACH contract from the U.S. Army Robert Morris Acquisition Center in Natick in 2005. These examples can most notably be denoted by the grey helmet shell (To match the newly adopted ACU / UCP pattern), or the term ACH, or A.C.H on the tag. ACH helmets produced following this were also issued with grey chinstrap hardware instead of black.

MSA ACH helmets were produced in Grey only.

GENTEX ACH I

2005 - 2010 Era

The third production marked Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH Helmet) (contract number - W911QY-05-D-0003.) is that of GENTEX Corporation. Gentex received the third ACH contract from the U.S.

2012 - 2015 Era

GENTEX ACH II

In late 2011, the Director Operational Test and Evaluation began re-evaluating the ACH Helmet, and sought to decrease overall weight while maintaining integrity and increasing overall protection against small arms fire. With that, following Gentex’s third production ACH Helmet, we see an upgraded version (Contract SPM1C1-12-C-0016) launched in May of 2012.

These helmets can be identified by the lighter green interior compared to earlier production models (Contract W911QY-05-D-0003).

Revision ACH

The firm Revision military (Now Galvion since 2020) began working with he US military in 2005, and production of the ACH in 2011. Revision military purchased rights to build the ACH helmet in 2011 from MSA, and has been producing them since. Revision military, in terms of helmets is most famous for the development of the British VIRTUS helmet, which is currently being used and issue in 2022, and for their Dutch military contract. However, this firm has also supplied the US military with over 1 million ACH Helmets. Interestingly, this firm received a contract in 2017 to begin production of the U.S. Army’s Advanced Combat Helmet Generation II (ACH GEN II). These will start being seen as the contract closes sometime in 2023.

Revision ACH helmets were produced in Grey only.

An interesting example found and shown below is the Revision Military Viper FC Helmet, in Tan 499. No information is known yet about this example.
